Flexitanks- An Introduction
Highly used for storage purposes, flexitanks are liquid bulk material lithe storage containers. Considered to be easy on the pocket, they are known to store between 50 litres to 26 ton, based on the liquid’s gravity. Flexitanks are also known to be highly environmental-friendly and in these times of climate change, that is definitely an advantage. The flexitanks cause no harm to the stored liquid as well and so are high in demand, compared to plastic or steel tanks.
The main features of any flexitanks are the same- external colour, inside make, thickness, strength, flexibility and sturdiness. There are some factors, which decide the type of flexitanks that will be used. These include the period of storage-whether it is for a short time or for many years and most importantly, what type of liquid is being stored. It is on the basis of these two factors that the flexitanks are designed and manufactured.
Storage in Flexitanks
As mentioned earlier, the main use of flexitanks is for storage and there are many items like fuel, potable water, food-grade liquids and industrial chemicals, which are safely and securely stored in flexitanks. A detailed description of what can be stored in flexitanks is given below:
- Fuels: Flexitanks are widely used to safely store fuels like gasoline, diesel and oil. Regarding fuels, safe storage is very crucial to avoid any kind of leakage and therefore, wastage. Depending on the type of fuel being stored, the flexitanks are equipped with safety lining and berm, thus ensuring all-round protection. Flexitanks are mostly utilized in emergency situations like war and natural disasters by the army and common people alike.
- Food-grade liquid: Storing and transporting food-grade liquid items like oils, milk, different types of juices and wines is always a challenge. This is where the role of flexitanks with specializing inner lining comes into play. To transport such items, the inner lining must be such that it keeps away microbes and must be extremely neat and clean. Also, the storage material must be FDA/EU approved. Given such requirements, flexitanks are definitely the best storage option.
- Potable Water: In times of environmental disasters and wars, water is also equally important as fuel. Flexitanks are the best way to store and if required, transport water from one spot to another. As they take up very less space, transporting them from one place to another is also not a hassle. Another reason why flexitanks are used is because they are completely made from material approved by relevant authorities. So, one can be reassured that the water stored in them is completely safe.
- Temporary Storage: In situations where liquid storage is required only for a short period of time, then flexitanks are the most practical and cheapest option. Not only do they bring down the overall costs, they are the best when liquid items need to be kept for a short while only.
